One supplement that’s quite common amongst the fat loss crowd is that of ephedra. Ephedra has been known to help boost the metabolic rate, providing higher amounts of energy, and decreasing the appetite. But what about if you’re trying to add muscle? Should ephedra be avoided at all costs? That depends on how you look at it.

Now, the one thing you need to be careful of about ephedra is that for some individuals, it does suppress appetite. So, this will depend on what type of person you are. Are you someone who can force yourself to eat regardless of whether you are hungry? If so, taking ephedra won’t derail your progress.
If you are not this type of person though and being less hungry would lead to you consuming fewer calories, than you need to be more careful. No matter what you are doing in the gym, if calories are not provided, you aren’t growing. Plain and simple. It is of utmost importance that that calorie intake is up, so doing whatever is necessary to get this in is needed.
Some people can force feed, others can’t. Determine who you are.
CNS Fatigue
Finally, the last point to make about taking ephedra when trying to build muscle is that you should still cycle with it like any other supplement you go on. Ephedra will cause some wear and tear on the CNS, which could hamper recovery progress over time. By taking a week or two off every two months you will help prevent this from occurring and keep your muscle gains coming.
Being recovered between sessions is critical if you hope to push yourself to new limits each and every workout, so not overlook this point.
So, if you are looking for a supplement to help with your muscle building, don’t immediately over look ephedra. While there is definitely a large variety of products out there aimed at recovery and that help to provide more calories allowing you to reach your calorie intake goal easier, ephedra has its own set of benefits also.
That said, the most important thing to take when trying to build muscle is, and will always be, food.
