In "Making a 3D cake at home, I went through the basics of taking a cake mix cardboard and cake pans basic construction and a wonderful character or object of your choice. Once you have your cake cool completely and cut round cakes into two halves (I cut the cake in 2 round halves) you can start assembling them on a table prepared cardboard cake.
The shape of the object that you construct will determine how you put your pieces of cake on the board. I will use the dinosaur for my example. I placed the halves round cut with cut on board, using 3 halves side by side for the thickness. The two halves will stand good until you get everything arranged in the shape you like, you can then use icing to stick together and crumb coat your cake. I then take the last half of the cake round, cut in half eligibility of these two pieces on their side on the shelf cake for the head, put on in front of 3 other half-round. For tail, I cut the cake the last round-shaped half-moon and place it behind the towers. You can curve it how you want. For legs, I make 4 forms of egg, using egg shaped Wilton pan that is perfect for legs. Place them on each side. You can secure them with Small wooden pegs, or just glue on with icing. Take a step back and look at your form, you tweak where necessary. I bend my dinosaur a bit on edge. When you get everything arranged in the shape you want, go ahead and cream instead of frosting between the pieces to stick together and ice gently on all parts a crumb coat. This prevents excess crumbs on your cherry finish.
Icing the cake, as I said is the most tedious process. I use butter icing to a basic recipe. You will need to double the recipe for the snow enough to fill in your cake. A beautiful recipe for butter cream icing base is as follows.
1 / 2 cup butter
1 / 2 cup shortening
4 cups powdered sugar
V. 2-3 soup. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
I use color gel icing color. I usually separates into separate bowls and color, using much of the body and smaller portions for shading and details on the sample form., eyes, claws, Forms spiney on dinosaurs. I used green for much of the body, a darker shade to strengthen around the legs, and create the spines on back and tail, claws black, white eyes and teeth. I used only a small plain tip round for small details. It is necessary fill the spaces between the head and body around the legs and tail and body building with the icing with the tip of a star to get the Full shape you want. Looking for a photo of your object is of great help to improve the color. Embellishments with bonbons and cut shapes is another good idea. I put little chocolate chips in the eye. You can get the most extravagant is that you love. The options are infinite. After your first question, a cake base sheet just will not do.
