1970 Onwards

In 1977, the film Pumping Iron, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the famous bodybuilder, has been released. This has given the sport a tremendous boost advertising.

At about the time the IFBB, International Federation of Bodybuilders, have been the strength of pre-Emin in sport. Conversely, the AAU, the subsidiary body of the sport took a back seat. In 1981, the National Physique Committee, or NPC, has been established. Since then, the NPC has emerged as the most successful bodybuilding organization in the U.S. It is also recognized that the amateur division of the IFBB.

There was a significant reduction of AAU sponsored bodybuilding contests in the late 1980 and early 1990. Indeed, in 1999, the AAU voted to withdraw completely from bodybuilding events.

This was the era of steroids anabolic steroids were widely used in the club and a variety of other sports. Some chemicals, such as testosterone, the hormone, are particularly effective for strengthening muscles. Tests to detect doping, which refers to the use of performance enhancing drugs, were then introduced by the IFBB for both steroids and other banned substances. Since the WWF were under investigation by the Government Federal for his alleged involvement in the trafficking of anabolic steroids, it was decided in 1992 that WBF would be tested for drugs. Accordingly, in the 1992 WBF contest, the appearance of the competitor was significantly below the standard expected in such competitions. It is therefore not surprising that, in July 1992, the WBF has been officially dissolved.

There was much speculation about the reasons behind this movement, but it probably included:

A shortfall in the pay-per-view broadcasts of the WBF contests.

The magazine WBF Bodybuilding Lifestyles, which later became WBF Magazine, was experiencing a sharp decline in sales.

The payment of many contracts of 6 digits and produce two television and a monthly magazine has been a huge burden on the organization.

However, the formation of the WBF had two positive effects for the IFBB athletes: (1) has persuaded the founder IFBB to register many of its stars to contracts, and (2) it ensured the IFBB raised sufficient cash prizes in its sanctioned contests. The WBF bodybuilders were eventually reinstated as members of the IFBB for a symbolic fine of 10% of their salary previous annual WBF.
