The genesis of the title of Mr. Olympia since 1963, when Joe Weider first expressed the need for a title that could propel bodybuilding sport to the next level. The Mr. America, Mr. World and Mr. Universe titles had become too small to accommodate the new generation of body builders. Was the 1965 Mr. Olympia title that has finally emerged as the final competition with the biggest price for the more physical world. In his inaugural contest held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the title took professional bodybuilding to uncharted heights.

On September 18, 1965, Larry Scott bodybuilding legend took the crown as the ancestor truly a trend setting decade. Having brought the Mr. America, Mr. World and Mr. Universe titles, Scott took the first title as a crown to a life well lived. In 1969, Olivia face his biggest challenge was brewing in the biggest rivalry contest in American history of professional bodybuilding. A very young Austrian, Arnold Schwarzenegger, made its debut at Mr. Olympia contest, but lost in a tight battle. Olivia was the former Mr. Olympia champion to win the trophy for three consecutive years. But in 1970, Olivia Arnold stopped short to find the coachbuilder third take the title at the Olympia.

Arnold was still perform better than its predecessors. It was unanimously contest Mr. Olympia 1971 held in Paris. This was the year the contest was held anywhere outside of New York. For the 1972 edition, Mr. Olympia title was held in Essen, Germany. It was here that Arnold put to rest the battle between him and Olivia, winning the trophy in a close race determined by four three-judge vote.

Returning to New York from 1973 championship became the fourth consecutive Arnold, a record but an easy victory by any means. In 1974, however, Lou Ferrigno makes its debut edition in New York at Madison Square Garden. Arnold broke his record New and bagged the fifth title Olympia. He had not done since, when the title of Mr. Olympia took place in South Africa for the 1975 edition, he still won and immediately retired. The 1975 Mr. Olympia title, was the first to be filmed and kept in Pumping Iron.

The 1976's competition was held Olympia moved to Columbus, Ohio, promoted by Arnold and Jim Lorimer. Here Franco Columbu won the Olympia title five appearances. After victory, he announced his retirement and gave Frank Zane, its largest competitor in the 1976 contest, the margin of maneuver to win the Mr. Olympia title in 1977.
